Rocket Languages Review: Japanese Edition

Rocket JapaneseWhen I decided that I was going to start learning Japanese, I knew that I was going to have to find a very good course to help me on my way, since it had been so long since I had had too focus on learning something.

People had told me that Japanese was an exceptionally difficult language to learn, which meant that I was convinced - I had to find the very best course out there.

I looked into every single Japanese language learning program which I could find on the web. After weighing all of my options, I was left with one obvious choice: the Rocket Japanese language course from the Rocket Language company.

Rocket's reputation is second to none and they offer a wide variety of language learning courses, including French, Chinese, German, Spanish, Italian and Japanese; even a course on American Sign Language! The Japanese course from rocket was put together by native Japanese speaker Sakaya Matsuura.

The first module of this program has 31 lessons which will get you actually speaking basic words I Japanese from your very first lesson. The course begins with conversational Japanese, which will let you converse on some level with Japanese speakers as you learn. When traveling, you will feel prepared to order meals, asking for directions and meeting and greeting new people.

Transcripts of the audio for each lesson are included; I found these especially useful in my studies. Each audio lesson is around 25 minutes in length, meaning the full first module contains 14 hours of educational content. The methods they use in this program will have you understanding and speaking Japanese almost before you know it! The audio tracks make it entertaining to learn.

The software included in this program makes it a snap to learn your new language and is a blast to use! MegaVocab is the first piece of software you’ll use.

MegaVocab is a vocabulary recognition program which as a beginner, I found very useful. You can run through a list of words, learning them by repetition and associating them with a picture which is shown to you at the same time. Remember the flashcards you used as a child? This reminded me of those and was really fun to work with.

MegaVocab comes with a thousand words and pictures built in and lets you add more words and pictures as your vocabulary grows.

Once I began to get a handle on the vocabulary, I progressed to the MegaAudio software, At this point, I began to feel more confident about the Japanese skills I had acquired so far.

Using this software, I was able to listen to Japanese being spoken and then pick out the picture which illustrates that word.

This system gives you a score along with the exercise so you can gauge your progress as you go. Your score will gradually improve with each session.

I thought that MegaAudio was a lot of fun to learn with. Learning vocabulary is one thing, but being able to understand a new language when spoken is a whole different thing and is very exciting. In my book, this is where a lot of the competition is lacking, but Rocket Japanese does very well.

Plus they even have a software program that will help take the mystery out of Japanese writing.

The MegaHiragana software will introduce you to the hiragana character set in a way that makes recognition and memorization not only easy, but also completely painless.

Another very cool aspect of the Rocket Japanese program was that it isn't just an introductory course. The course is designed with the assumption that the student has no background in the language when starting.

But it continues to an advanced level as well. This meant that I wouldn't need to go out and find an advanced course as my Japanese skills improved. To me, this was a great element of added value.

Maybe the best part of this whole program is the member's only online forum where you can communicate with other students, as well as Rocket Language instructors to get answers with your questions. The forum alone is worth the price of admission. If you are ever stumped, help is right here in the forum – and it's thrown in at no extra cost!

I had had a hard time finding even a home study program which was worthwhile for Japanese, but finding a program of this quality at the price of only a hundred dollars, well that was a real surprise! As I kept using the course, I became more and more surprised at the price of the course.

I opted for the downloadable version myself, but Rocket Japanese is also available on CD which you can have shipped to you. I went for the download because it was cheaper and frankly, I'm impatient. I listened to the audio on my PC, made CD's for the car and loaded it up on my iPod too!

As if all of this wasn't sufficient inducement, Rocket also gives a 60 day money back guarantee – no questions asked! Given the high quality, low price, forum and software I have to give this program a five star rating.

If you'd like to learn a second language, consider Japanese – Rocket Japanese makes it easy and fun to learn this normally somewhat daunting language. I wish you much success with your decision to learn Japanese. To learn more about the Rocket Japanese Language Course, visit their website now by clicking the link below:
