Rocket Languages Review: French Edition
Learning how to speak a second language can really be one of the most rewarding challenges that you ever undertake in your lifetime.
Learning the native tongue of the countries that you travel to will add wonders to your already exhilarating experiences.
If you have been searching online you will realize that there are many courses out there that claim that they will teach a foreign language.
But how are you suppose to know which ones stack up, and which ones fall short from their claims?
We put together this product review in an effort to share our experiences with anyone that has the desire to learn how to speak the French language.
The program that we have reviewed is called Rocket French which is produced by a company called Rocket Languages LTD. This course was written by Marie-Claire Riviere who is a native Frenchman.
The company, Rocket Languages, has an excellent reputation for producing high quality language learning courses which include Spanish, French, Italian, German, Japanese and Chinese, and they even have a course for learning American Sign Language.
The first module in this course contains thirty one audio tracks that will have you speaking some basic French words after just your very first lesson.
The course instructs you to learn what is known as conversational French which means you will be able to converse with native french speakers while on your travels. After completing this language course you will feel comfortable speaking to the locals, asking for directions, ordering in restaurants or anything else you may need to do.
The Rocket French package also includes the actual transcripts of the audios and we found that particularly helpful when it came to following along. Each audio is about twenty minutes in length which means that the full module is about eleven hours long.
The methods used within these audios will allow you to absorb and speak modern French nice and quickly. Eleven hours seems like a lot, we know, but with the use of the audio tracks the time goes by very quickly and effortlessly.
Another killer feature of the program is the fact that it also includes software that makes learning very easy, and more importantly, fun.
The first software application that you get is a vocabulary recognition tool that they call MegaVocab. We found this to be very helpful, especially in the beginning.
You basically just run through a series of words and you learn the words through repetition and an association with the picture. It's sort of like when you where a kid and you used flashcards to learn with.
The software comes with 1000 words and pictures built right into it, but it also allows you to add more words and pictures of your choice as you advance with the French language.
Once we started to get the hang of the vocabulary we moved on to the MegaAudio software. This phase of the course is when we started to feel confident about all that we had learned.
The software provides exercises that test and improve your recognition of spoken words. The system provides a score with each exercise so you always have a unit of measure for your progress.
We found this software to be a lot of fun to use. It is one thing to learn vocabulary, but to understand it when spoken is another. In our opinion this is where other language learning programs fall short, and where the Rocket French program excels from the pack.
Another very cool aspect of the Rocket French program was that it isn't just an introductory course. The course is designed with the assumption that the student has no background in the language when starting, but it then continues to an advanced level as well. We felt like this really helped to increase the value of the program because we wouldn't have to go out and buy a more advanced course as we progressed further.
Possibly the most impressive part of this French language course is the members only forum where you can ask questions and communicate with other students and the Rocket Language online instructors. To us, this forum alone, made the cost of the course a real bargain. If you happen to get stuck on something, you will find lots of help in their forum.
Our closing comment involves the pricing of this course. We wanted to get started right away so we were delighted to find that they offered a download option which means they don't have to ship out CD's, software and printed material.
They offer a two hundred dollar discount if you choose the download option (which is what we did). We were then able to listen on our computer, burn the material to a CD, and even load audio onto our iPods.
By purchasing the download course we were able to save ourselves two hundred dollars and we picked up the course for just under one hundred dollars. To top it all off, the folks at Rocket Languages offer the course with a 60 day money back guarantee, with no questions asked.
When we consider the quality of the material presented, the software, the forum participation, the guarantee, and the bargain price, we can only give the Rocket French program my highest rating of 5 stars.
If you are wanting to learn a second language, we think you will have a real hard time beating the quality of this program. To learn more about Rocket French visit their website by clicking here.
